Re-routing on the Pebblebed Heaths

30 Mar 2022

There are four areas which have been re-routed:

1. Lympstone Common - Following a number of issues regarding the permissive right of way on Lympstone Common we have now re-routed the permissive path in partnership with Clinton Devon Estates, moving it slightly to the north of the route as currently mapped. This has been very well waymarked and tested so walkers should find the path easy to follow. OS have been informed and will update the route at the next scheduled OS basemap update - we apologise that this is still outstanding.

2. The approach from the south to Four Firs car park follows the main track keeping on this to the right where the ground rises, passing around the bench and along to the car park.  This work will be completed in early April - please follow the signs as waymarked until this is complete.

3. The approach from the south to Woodbury Castle follows the path immediately opposite Four Firs car park and keeps to the right of the B3180 road and does not cross it (as is shown on older OS maps). This is much safer and provides better views.

4. At Woodbury Castle - There are new waymarkers guiding you around the ramparts of Woodbury Castle before joining the path across the common .

Before planning your walk, we recommend you check the Devon County Council Rights of Way website for any temporary closures following on from any adverse weather in the area.

Please note it will take some time for these reroutes to be updated on OS maps so follow the waymarked route.
